The End of the Road

This following image concludes my Honours project.

I have successfully chosen an old Slavic fairy tale and re-imagined it, thus creating a series of illustrations and concept designs for an imaginary video game.

A tip of my hat to the great Mike Mignola. I thought I grew out of that phase, but I clearly didn't. It's just too much fun to do.

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you, and good night.

Vetrodub, a Slavic bogatyr giant who can rip trees right out of the ground.

Some Amazing Fantasy Illustration and Concept Design Pieces

It's coming close to the end of the year for us, so I'm dumping my "inspiring images" folder. In it I collected amazing concept art pieces and illustrations by various artists. Ivan Bilibin's work definitely influenced my later pieces. Same goes to Feng Zhu and Adrian Smith. Some of the images are out of order, but there are just too many to try and edit.

Enjoy!

Glow Study

I decided to have some fun with this. You know the little swarms of hattifatteners from the Mumintroll books? Kinda got inspired by them and decided to something along the lines of Colour from Outer Space.

This was a quick study of glowing objects and how they interact with their environment. Shameless use of custom brushes for trees but that wasn't the point of this exercise :)

Hut on Chicken Legs

I had a ton of fun with these ones. I thought, Baba Yaga is the most powerful witch in the Russian fairy tales, so why can't her hut stand up for itself? Well, now it can! Inspired by the Warhammer 40,000's dreadnought, I present to you the Hut on Chicken Legs, with a twist.

Some last minute sketches

Before submitting everything I really want to explore the aspect of travelling a little bit more. Similar approach was taken in the Skillfull Hunstman study, simply because the words, "he traveled around" can be interpreted in so many different ways.

Here is one pic I painted yesterday. It took around 3 hours and is far from perfect, but I am going to include it simply because it carries out its function as a mood painting/colour study. I am aiming to do a couple more of these before the submissions on Monday.

Two images in particular were used as reference in this study. These can be found below and their relevance is pretty self explanatory.
